About the philosopher Epictetus
Epictetus was born as a slave around AD 55 in Hierapolis, east of the Roman Empire. His employer was Epaphroditus, Nero's administrative secretary. From a very young age, Epictetus displayed an outstanding talent for knowledge, and Epaphroditus was so impressed that he sent the young man to Rome to study with the famous Stoic teacher, Gaius Musonius. Rufus.
